Simple and Spooky Halloween Wreath

My style is usually a combination of minimalistic and classy but I love a pop of color. Most of the Halloween wreaths I found in the store were fun, bright and scary. I wanted something more elegant but still spooky.

I am from the Northeast so Halloween is big up here. It’s only September and I already have my house decked out with spiders, pumpkins, and mums, but I was missing a wreath I loved for the front door.

This project took me about 20 minutes to put together and it was easy enough that even my 4 year old daughter could help!

I first gathered my supplies:

12 inch floral wreath hoop (I used these in black from Amazon)

fake or dried flowers & greenery- I tried to mix various textures and get mostly dark greens and blacks for Halloween but then a dark red flower to add a pop of color

feather butterflies (I used these)

Matte black spray paint

black widow spiders (I used these)

floral wire

wire cutter

small pliers

hot glue gun and hot glue

Step 1: I determined the placement of my flowers on the wreath ring by playing around with different options, you’ll want some to go towards the left and some to go towards the right on the bottom portion of the wreath ring.

Step 2: Once I figured out where I wanted to place the flowers, I cut them to shorten the stems. You want them short enough so that you can mostly hide them with the florals on the other side but long enough so you have room to secure them to the wreath.

Step 3: Attach the flowers and greenery to the wreath ring with the floral wire. Use the pliers to pull it tight to make sure all are secure. You may need two or three sections of the wire to secure the stems. I wanted the tops of the flowers and greenery to remain somewhat free for this design but you can attach them in areas towards the tops if you want to make it all point in one direction or make it cleaner looking. Start on one side, then move to the other.

4. Once all your florals are attached, adjust any branches until the wreath looks how you want it to.

5. Add finishing touches. I spray painted my butterflies to make them black. They took about 10 minutes to dry. I then attached them to the wreath with the attached wire and secured in place with some hot glue. I attached the spiders where I wanted with hot glue.

And the final product!

I love the way this project came out!
